India thrash England by 68 runs, set up final clash with the West Indies
England's batsmen crumble against India's spin quartet as India book their place in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024
The Indian men's cricket team marched into the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 with a thumping 68-run victory over England in the semi-final at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. India will now face the West Indies in the final on November 16.
India's victory was set up by a brilliant bowling performance from their spin quartet of Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. The spinners shared seven wickets between them, as England's batsmen struggled to cope with their variations and accuracy.
Chasing a target of 216, England's top-order batsmen crumbled under the pressure. Jason Roy was dismissed for a duck in the first over, while Jos Buttler and Alex Hales followed soon after. The only batsman to offer any resistance was Jonny Bairstow, who scored a gritty 52 off 45 balls. However, he was eventually dismissed by Jadeja in the 16th over.
With England 118/6 at that stage, the game was effectively over. Jadeja finished with figures of 3/27, while Chahal, Patel, and Yadav picked up two wickets each.
Earlier, India had posted a challenging total of 215/5 thanks to a brilliant century from Virat Kohli. The former India captain scored 103 off 63 balls, his 18th T20I century. He was well-supported by Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a quick-fire 50 off 28 balls.
India's victory is a major upset, as England were considered the favorites going into the match. However, India's spinners proved to be too good on the day, and they will now be confident of beating the West Indies in the final.
